A Note From Erika

“Be True.” Two words. Six letters. Takes about 1.5 seconds to let this short phrase slip from your mouth. Yet if you allow it, these two words, together, can change your life. At least, they have for me.

When I was younger, I was at a particularly vulnerable point in my life. My friends and I were all chasing our dreams and those dreams were pulling us in different directions. As if that wasn’t enough, I was experiencing my first heartache. The storm clouds had officially rolled into my life, making my usual vibrant self more like a shade of gray. For thirteen straight years, each day while in school, from my first day of Kindergarten to my last day of Senior Year, my mom would write me a note on napkin and place it in my lunchbox. On one particularly challenging day, I found her letter that simply said,

“Be True to who you are and you’ll never go wrong. Love you lots.  XOXO, Mom”

Instantly, the sun came out. I read the note over and over again, feeling more at ease each time. I realized in that collection of moments, that this life was MINE. The things and people I surrounded myself with were there to make me the happiest, most sincere version of myself I could be. If I wasn’t being true to ME – who would be? Ever since that lunchbox love letter, I have held that phrase, “Be True,” close to my heart and have done my very best to live its meaning with the start of each new day.

My dream, from the time I was a little kid, has been to sing. To perform. To share my voice. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. Every song I write, and every performance I give, I do so with intense sincerity. The music is a way to allow my personality and heart to shine the best way it knows how. But more than that, through my music it is my mission to use my voice, whether performing, visiting with fans, or promoting my image to connect with the hearts of others.

My charge to my fans and followers this—know that happiness is beauty. With the goal of happiness, you will uncover your true self and feelings. Once you know what brings you joy, share that special gift with others and see what an impact YOU will make on the world!

Life’s too short to hold back your potential and to disguise who you really are. You deserve to shine. You deserve to feel free. You deserve to simply Be True.

How It All Started

Hailing from a tight-knit farm town in upstate New York, Erika Cole was born for the Grand Ole Opry stage. Raised on Patsy Cline and Aretha Franklin, Erika grew up with a deep love for chorus and a passion for theatre. Erika quickly found an outlet on stage at school talent shows, local theatre productions, and many National Anthems at athletic events. The stage is where Erika felt free to express who she was and it is where she felt the most alive and most confident. If there was a microphone, a crowd, and a song to be sung—Erika was there.

In 2007, Erika’s talents were validated when she won WRWD 107.3’s Country Star Competition. With the support of her community and her incredible family and friends, Erika followed her passion for singing to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. During her tenure, she had the opportunity to work with and be mentored by many notable figures in the music industry. One such individual is legendary American musician and record producer Don Was. After a chance interaction, Mr. Was heard Erika sing and instantly asked that she perform Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” a song he originally produced, in one of his upcoming shows. His enthusiastic interest and feedback that Erika’s performance was second only to Bonnie Raitt herself helped solidify Erika’s dream of pursuing a music career.

Graduating in May 2011 with a degree in Vocal Performance with a minor in Creative Writing, Erika was chosen as the Student Commencement Speaker, one of the institution’s highest honors. Upon graduation, she immediately moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Music is where she always saw her future, and her future is now.

Erika’s vocal abilities areoff the charts. In addition to performing more than 60 shows in the Nashville area over the past year, she has been invited by published lyricist and composer Michael Berkley seven times to perform in “Divas,” the largest production the professional theatre Tri-Arts hosts each year in Connecticut.

Proceeds from the performance go directly to supporting community arts programming. Committed to instilling the love of music in young people, Erika doesn’t just perform for non-profit showcases like “Divas,” but also gives her time coaching children on vocal performance, writing music, and theatre. She is passionate about music and this is evident in every aspect of her life.

The Future

There is no doubt that Erika has the talent, background, tenacity, and personality to make it in the music business as a performing artist and songwriter. As with most artists in the country music genre, the main goal is to attract attention and commitments from the “big three”: recording company, publishing company, and major booking agent. Through the EarlyShares Music Equity Offering and Rewards Campaign, Erika seeks to fund a year-long promotional effort that will sling-shot her into the mainstream country world.
