The SEC released the proposed rules for equity crowdfunding under Title III of the JOBS Act on October 24. The long-awaited rules will help democratize access to capital for startups and small businesses by allowing all investors – regardless of wealth – to gain equity in private companies. But at a whopping 585 pages, not everyone in the crowdfunding community has had time to digest the SEC’s guidelines. In an EarlyShares webinar November 5, we took a closer look at the proposed rules to take some of the mystery out of Title III. Click below to access an archive of the presentation from Joanna Schwartz, CEO of EarlyShares, and Sara Hanks, CEO of CrowdCheck.
Joanna Schwartz is the CEO of a pioneer equity-based Crowdfund investing platform in the U.S.; EarlyShares.com, which has worked to make equity Crowdfunding a reality prior to and since the passage of the JOBS Act in April 2012. EarlyShares has amassed a roster of more than 60,000 potential investors and 2,000 businesses and startups that are waiting to participate in equity-based Crowdfunding once the SEC finalizes its rules. There are still many misconceptions and questions both entrepreneurs and investors have when it comes to equity Crowdfunding. How much money can you raise? What safeguards are there against fraud? What are the ingredients to a successful Crowdfunding campaign? Joanna's talk will focus on PASSIONOMICS (the platform's adage), advances the industry has made since the passage of the JOBS Act over a year ago, details of how to launch a winning Crowdfunding campaign and the key differences between donation- and equity-based Crowdfunding.
